The Howard Vandersea State of Maine Chapter's primary mission is to promote amateur football at all competitive levels. In doing so, the chapter hopes to increase the number of schools and young men playing the game. Through coaching education, coaches at all levels learn to teach and coach basic skills and fundamentals. At the annual scholar-athlete dinner, numerous outstanding young men who have brought honor to their school are recognized. Each receives a $500. Scholarship through the Coach Mac - Huard Fund. A Distinguished American Award and a Contributor to Amateur Football Award, along with a football official and the high school coach of the year awards, are also presented.
The chapter is the support organization for the "James Fitzpatrick Dinner," Maine's high school equivalent of the Heisman Trophy. A coaching clinic is held each Spring in conjunction with the MFCA and a golf tournament to benefit the scholarship monies.
An annual Kickoff Luncheon is held prior to the start of each season to recognize the 7 NCAA Colleges in Maine.
