The mission of The Howard Vandersea Maine Chapter of the National Football Foundation is to promote and develop the power of amateur football in fostering leadership, sportsmanship, competitive zeal, and the drive for academic excellence in America's young people. We recognize excellence in players, coaches, officials, and laypeople at our annual awards banquet via the following honors: Scholar-Athlete Scholarships, The John Wolfgram Coach of the Year Award, The Marty Ryan Contribution to Amateur Football Award, The Football Officials Award, and the Distinguished American Award for volunteers. These awards are distributed annually at our Scholar-Athlete Award banquet in May.
Local youth programs are supported via a grant application process, and those awards are distributed in July at our annual Kick-Off Luncheon. The Mac/Huard Fund supports the grants and scholarships awarded each year; the fund is named for Dick MacPherson and John Huard, both legends of the Maine football landscape.
We also provide support for the James T. Fitzpatrick Trophy throughout the nomination, selection, and award process.
